Recycled Paper Sludge (RPS)-Derived Nanocellulose: Production, Detection and Water Treatment Application

نویسندگان

چکیده

Paper production and recycling result in large amounts of recycled paper sludge (RPS) that is currently being disposed very costly unsustainable practices, raising the importance developing green solutions for waste management. The use nanocellulose (NC) as next generation materials has gained much attention due to its economic potential. However, there are substantial challenges NC extraction, detection, quantification methods. In this study, was produced from RPS a means converting into resource. process included short, 30 min ozonation (21 mg O3/g RPS), which allowed sufficient delignification facilitated following hydrolysis step. Among all tested durations, 4-h with 64% w/w sulfuric acid resulted highest production. Fluorescent staining by calcofluor white used simple low-cost detection in-situ. Crude showed significant 63% dye uptake 0.1 ppm red 131 within min. Compared standard disposal methods RPS, utilization supports circular economy concept significantly contributes development cellulose bio-based nanomaterials water treatment applications.

Valorizing recycled paper sludge by a bioethanol production process with cellulase recycling.

The feasibility of cellulase recycling in the scope of bioethanol production from recycled paper sludge (RPS), an inexpensive byproduct with around 39% of carbohydrates, is analyzed. RPS was easily converted and fermented by enzymes and cells, respectively. Final enzyme partition between solid and liquid phases was investigated, the solid-bound enzymes being efficiently recovered by alkaline wa...

Ethanol production of semi-simultaneous saccharification and fermentation from mixture of cotton gin waste and recycled paper sludge

Ethanol production from the steam-exploded mixture of 75% cotton gin waste and 25% recycled paper sludge in various conditions was investigated by semi-simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSSF) consisting of a pre-hydrolysis and a simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF). Four cases were studied: 24-h pre-hydrolysis + 48-h SSF (SSSF 24), 12-h pre-hydrolysis + 60-h SSF (S...

Bioconversion of Waste Fiber Sludge to Bacterial Nanocellulose and Use for Reinforcement of CTMP Paper Sheets

Utilization of bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) for large-scale applications is restricted by low productivity in static cultures and by the high cost of the medium. Fiber sludge, a waste stream from pulp and paper mills, was enzymatically hydrolyzed to sugar, which was used for the production of BNC by the submerged cultivation of Komagataeibacter xylinus. Compared with a synthetic glucose-based ...

Hydrogen production from paper sludge hydrolysate.

The main objective of this study was to develop a system for the production of "renewable" hydrogen. Paper sludge is a solid industrial waste yielding mainly cellulose, which can be used, after hydrolysis, as a feedstock in anaerobic fermentation by (hyper)thermophilic organisms, such as Thermotoga elfii and Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus. Tests on different medium compositions showed tha...
